what it means to be a eMCee
As a eMCee which is more than just a microphone controller or master of ceromonies .
In one of my journal entries that some people call songs i break it down as "eminently mesmerising charisma emminatinating effort"
rakim puts it like this in one of his interviews
this is a par excellent example of what a eMCee is and this is before even going in to the realm of ghost writers and that bull shit.
The thing that stands out to me here though, is that rah has differentiated the rapper as a different category stating that a rapper make more commercial sounding music and tends to sway towards the club the "money/ hoes/ cars/ clothes principle".
Where the eMCee is more attuned to creating masterpieces.
In the eyes of the people there is no distinct line other than the mass's only really release and to a degree prefer the latter, because materials possession is the thing that most people aspire to.
Don't get me wrong but the mass's lack imagination, which is developed by thinking and reflection. Where material items are visual less effort is expelled "except for working most of your life to attain it" but that seems like the path of least effort for what ever reason unbeknown to me but hay ho.
So the eMCee is then thrown amunks this pile and with the emergence of theses zombie ass sounding artist who just mumble on wax add yet another dimension is thrown in and misinterpretation further obscures the publics impression of what hip hop is and essentially what it has to offer.
as people will see this and think theses artist are of the same style
Trap artist Rap artist eMCee
you don't have to listen but to no more than 30sec to realise they are miles apart.
and its funny because when i typed eMCee in google rakim was the only one who showed up.
The problem that has happened is as HIP HOP has reached the world in its entirety, the ones who was the driving force of its growth has grown up with it. It might seem like there style is old but this is because that is the vantage point of where that style and sound accessible in large amounts say late 80's to late 90's but as the commerciality of the music grew it took a lot less to hear its true sound. When it was on the streets or the community centres if you was wack you would be booted off the stage but as it got to the point of popularity it was all about what the record executive deemed was hip hop it became rap music this is what changed.
They are all counted as hip hop or come under the fold of hip hop but they don't all get shown of given the same platform instead there is a disrespect from both artist and public towards the intelligent eMCee.
*it also dosnt help when real hip hop heads start refuting to it as old skool or its just not like how it used to be because there favourite artist don't spin tracks no more i am a eMCee and this is what you are complaining about not being about anymore
anyway i came across this
so in order for this not to be one of those crying bitching blogs i alway try aim for progression of the human race and the next torch carriers of the real art-form.
this is war because the ratio of exposure is 1 eMCee to 10 rappers and as for that mumble rap i don't even call that rap music.
so im gonna give you the break down on a eMCee and the bench mark of when you say the word HIP HOP what you should be listening out for.
.word play
.concepts
.content
.style
.metaphors
ill leave you with this
I heared a very cool saying that a rapper and a eMCee is like a dog and a wolf yer they are of similar bloodline but you never forget a wolf.
